outlander 800, no pump fuel (1 reply)

I got a 2007, Outlander max xt, 800 with only 193 miles and 19 hours on it. It’s been sitting for 8 months with me starting it occasionally for only a few minutes each time. I went to start it again the other day and it wouldn’t start. Dead battery, so I put it on the trickle charger by attaching the positve end on the red nut where the battery connects to the solenoid and the neg. to the neg. battery post. After charging the battery and filling the tank 3 bars it would not turn over. I removed the air intake and put gas directly in throttle body and it started up and ran until the gas ran out. I pulled off the original gas filter and it is clear, there is NO gas flowing out of the line when cranking with the filter off.
Checked the fuel pump fuse and it is good. When I first turn the key the fuel pump noise is VERY faint, unlike my dailey driver which is identical except it is a Limited model. That fuel pump is kinda noisy when you first turn the key.
There was gas in the tank when I brought it home and stored it but now its empty. Don’t remember how much though. It gets quite hot in my garage, could that gas have somehow clogged up the fuel pump pickup tube screen?

Glen....... you missed a great day of riding! actually found a deep mud pit and on my 3rd trip through, I got stuck. Turns out there was a poisonous snake ::oabout 2 feet away from me while we were winching out my Renegade. Didn't know it until a little kid there pointed it out to us after we got out. I slid into a tree :S but my GristleBoyz bumper saved the day. Put a nice dent in the melaleuca tree though. Bars might have gotten a tad tweaked though, I'll check them out in the next couple of dayz. we had 8 quads with us today. There was a $hitload of quads out on the trails in Bonita, trucks and trailers everywhere. Luckily we didn't come across any other quads coming at us on the trails head on. we tend to fly at times on those windy trails. It's like a friggin race course on two of the trails with a mile or so of switch backs and continuos , short, tight high bank turns/ trails, one right after another. BIG FUN as long as no one else is coming at you around one of those blind corners.:)-D
Forgot to mention that I poked a slit/hole about 1/2" long in the side wall of one of my rear tires. Will a patch plug work in those tires or because of low pressure and tons of flex they don't hold??????? Front tire same side looks low, I'll see tomorrow if it's leaking.(td)

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA) has effectively outlawed the sale of youth off-highway vehicles (OHVs). According to section 101(a) of the enacted legislation, all youth products containing lead must have less than 600 parts per million (ppm) by weight. The CPSC has interpreted the law to apply to various components of youth OHVs including the engine, brakes, suspension, battery and other mechanical parts. Even though the lead levels in these parts are small, they are still above the minimum threshold.
As I was inspecting the synthetic line how it rolled over the modified can-am bumper, I noticed a very rough surface left from grinding the bumper to fit, which would have in turn shredded the synthetic line, not steel cable on this model. Damn glad I saw it before it was to late. Ran all of the wiring and now I'm gonna wrap the exhaust pipe to cut down on some of that damn heat. The XT 30 has the wireless remote control, nice feature.
I have a question. But first, I 'd like to add this disclaimer: the type of riding I do (for the most part) is trail riding. I'm not a big "muddin" guy, but have done this in the past. I use my bike every day on my ranch, so I try to be as gentle on it as I can. With that being said... I recently went on a riding trip and attempted to run through a decent mud hole. The water never made it over the fenders and I know that none got into the air intake. After getting stuck, my cooling fan kicked on and struggled since it was in the water. My check engine light came on and the display showed "limp home". The bike stayed running. After I was winched out, I let the bike run for serval minutes. I turned it off and then re started it. All the lights and the "limp home" message was off. The bike idled normal. As we rode back to the trailer, I noticed that the bike would pull forward while at an idle, in gear. I had to use the brake to hold it still. As I loaded it on the trailer, I could smell my belt slipping and saw smoke. After I got home and unloaded it. I could start the bike as long as it has out of gear. If I tried to start it in gear, the bike lurched forward. After I started it and let it idle out of gear, it dies as soon as I tried to put into gear. It would start everytime out of gear. I also noticed that my shifter was very hard to work and I was unable to get it into park.

Is this just water in my CVT? or perhaps a bigger problem?

My thought is this....this bike is MADE for this and I certainly was not in a spot that most would consider exterme. I have never flooded this bike or turn it upside...like I said, I take care of it.

Thanks to those who reply!

HELP STOP THE FEBRUARY 10TH BAN ON YOUTH OHVS (6 replies)

Subject: HELP STOP THE FEBRUARY 10TH BAN ON YOUTH OHVS

BLUERIBBON COALITION ACTION ALERT!

Attention BRC Action Alert Subscriber,

HELP STOP THE FEBRUARY 10TH BAN ON YOUTH OHVS

On February 10, 2009, a new law regulating lead content in certain products will
go into effect. This could adversely affect companies that manufacture or
distribute youth model all-terrain vehicles and off-highway motorcycles and
parts and accessories for those vehicles . Dealers that sell and service those
products would be impacted as well.

The Specialty Vehicle Institute of America (SVIA) and the Motorcycle Industry
Council (MIC) have urgently requested the Consumer Product Safety Commission
(CPSC) and federal legislators to take a common sense approach to implementation
of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act's lead provisions.

SVIA and MIC have joined several of their member companies in filing petitions
with the CPSC for emergency relief from the provisions. They are seeking a
temporary final rule to exempt ATV and motorcycle components, parts and
accessories in order to avoid major disruptions to enthusiasts, to the member
companies' businesses, and to the companies' dealer network of thousands of
small, independent businesses, which employ tens of thousands of Americans.

BRC is asking all OHV users to contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission
and their elected officials today!

Use the following links to send your comments and to contact your Congressional
Representatives.
Included below is a sample letter regarding the potential ban of all
youth-oriented OHVs, which starts February 10, 2009.

and edit the sample letter below.

_______________________________________________________________

Sample Letter:

As a member of the OHV community, I want to voice my strong support for
petitions filed recently by the Motorcycle Industry Council and Specialty
Vehicle Institute of America to seek emergency relief from provisions, which go
into effect on February 10, 2009.

While I do support efforts by the Consumer Product Safety Commission to protect
children from lead content in products that truly present a risk to children, I
do not believe the Commission intended that metal parts on ATVs and motorcycles
be included in that regulation because they do not present a lead risk to
children.

As the spring OHV recreation season rapidly approaches, I ask you to support
efforts to exclude youth-oriented OHVs - and the businesses that sell and
service them - from being unnecessarily impacted by this ban, especially during
this economic crisis.

Sincerely,
