outlander 800, no pump fuel (1 reply)

I got a 2007, Outlander max xt, 800 with only 193 miles and 19 hours on it. It’s been sitting for 8 months with me starting it occasionally for only a few minutes each time. I went to start it again the other day and it wouldn’t start. Dead battery, so I put it on the trickle charger by attaching the positve end on the red nut where the battery connects to the solenoid and the neg. to the neg. battery post. After charging the battery and filling the tank 3 bars it would not turn over. I removed the air intake and put gas directly in throttle body and it started up and ran until the gas ran out. I pulled off the original gas filter and it is clear, there is NO gas flowing out of the line when cranking with the filter off.
Checked the fuel pump fuse and it is good. When I first turn the key the fuel pump noise is VERY faint, unlike my dailey driver which is identical except it is a Limited model. That fuel pump is kinda noisy when you first turn the key.
There was gas in the tank when I brought it home and stored it but now its empty. Don’t remember how much though. It gets quite hot in my garage, could that gas have somehow clogged up the fuel pump pickup tube screen?

I have a yellow '07 650 Max for sale that has 156 hours on it. I put the XT bumpers on the front and rear, a 2 inch suspension lift, rear view mirror, a 2500 lb. winch, and a 2inch trailer ball. Bike comes with the storage box and second seat. Bike runs great and has never been wrecked. I have XT alloy wheels w/Carlisle ACT tires on it and it comes with the factory steel wheels and tires. Both sets of tires have been slimmed and they have never had any flats. Bike still has about 12 months on the warranty left. I am asking $5,500 OBO. I have it for sale locally and you are responsible for the shipping or I may be able to meet you within 100 miles of Tulsa, OK. I need to sell fast. I will post some pics asap.

Glen....... you missed a great day of riding! actually found a deep mud pit and on my 3rd trip through, I got stuck. Turns out there was a poisonous snake ::oabout 2 feet away from me while we were winching out my Renegade. Didn't know it until a little kid there pointed it out to us after we got out. I slid into a tree :S but my GristleBoyz bumper saved the day. Put a nice dent in the melaleuca tree though. Bars might have gotten a tad tweaked though, I'll check them out in the next couple of dayz. we had 8 quads with us today. There was a $hitload of quads out on the trails in Bonita, trucks and trailers everywhere. Luckily we didn't come across any other quads coming at us on the trails head on. we tend to fly at times on those windy trails. It's like a friggin race course on two of the trails with a mile or so of switch backs and continuos , short, tight high bank turns/ trails, one right after another. BIG FUN as long as no one else is coming at you around one of those blind corners.:)-D
Forgot to mention that I poked a slit/hole about 1/2" long in the side wall of one of my rear tires. Will a patch plug work in those tires or because of low pressure and tons of flex they don't hold??????? Front tire same side looks low, I'll see tomorrow if it's leaking.(td)

Yamaha recalls Rhino off-road vehicles in wake of fatal accidents
Free repairs will be made to the vehicles, which the Consumer Product Safety Commission determined was involved in more than 50 accidents, resulting in 46 deaths and hundreds of injuries.

April 1, 2009

Yamaha Motor Corp. USA suspended sales of its Rhino off-road vehicles Tuesday and launched a repair program after the Consumer Product Safety Commission determined that they had been involved in more than 50 accidents resulting in 46 deaths and hundreds of injuries.

About 145,000 Rhinos have been sold since the two-seat "side-by-side" vehicle, which looks like a small dune buggy, was introduced in 2003. Yamaha will make free repairs on Rhino 450, 660 and 700 models that will make them safer and less prone to rolling over, the commission said in a statement released in cooperation with Cypress-based Yamaha, the U.S. arm of the Japanese manufacturer.

The commission's acting chairwoman, Nancy Nord, said she became so concerned about the number of deaths and injuries associated with the Rhino vehicles that "I directed staff to step up their investigative efforts." Nord characterized the recall as "a critical step toward increasing family safety."

Among the repairs, Yamaha will be removing the Rhino's rear anti-sway bars and installing spacers on the rear wheels and half doors on door-less models, said Van Holmes, a Yamaha spokesman.

The CPSC is advising Rhino owners to stop using them until they have been repaired, Holmes said. Yamaha isn't scrapping the popular line, however; Rhino vehicles will return to showrooms after repairs have been made, he said.

The recall and repair program is a victory for those who've lost family or friends in Rhino accidents, said Heidi Crow, whose 9-year-old son, Jeremy Todd, known as J.T., died in a Rhino rollover accident June 22, 2007.

Crow and her husband, Jeremy, along with other families who have been affected by Rhino accidents, have spread the word through a website ( www.jtcrow.net) and lobbied the commission to get Yamaha to make the repairs.

"This is the first time that I've felt like all the work and everything that we've been doing over the last 21 months has paid off," said Crow, who lives in Winsborough, Texas. "There's been a lot of lives lost that could have been prevented, but the changes are being made, so I'm happy."

The two-passenger Rhino has a built-in roll cage, but a narrow wheelbase and an anti-sway bar that can lift the rear tires off the ground during slow turns have caused many accidents, Crow said.

J.T. was wearing a seat belt when the Rhino he was riding in flipped over, launching him from the vehicle before it rolled on top of him, she said.

"These repairs address the Rhino's design defects," Crow said. "If we make it wider, then we make it more stable and we make it safer and we save people's lives, and that's what this is all about."

More than two-thirds of the reported accidents were rollovers, many involving turns at low speeds and on level terrain, the commission statement said.
